American beauty company Living Proof is committed to developing a protective coating

Two hours after application, skin treated with the novel XPL suffered much less water loss than skin treated with a high-end commercial moisturiser.Scientists, including those of Indian-origin, have developed a new material that can temporarily tighten skin, smooth wrinkles, and may be used todeliver drugs to treat skin conditions such as eczema. The material, a silicone-based polymer that may be applied on the skin as a thin, imperceptible coating, mimics healthy youthful skin.In one study, the XPL was applied to the under-eye area where "eye bags" often form as skin ages. The researchers, including Alpesh Patel, formerly at US-based beauty company Living Proof, and Nithin Ramadurai from Olivo Laboratories, set out to develop a protective coating that could restore the properties of healthy skin, for both medical and غير مجاز مي باشدmetic applications."

It's an invisible layer that can provide a barrier, provide غير مجاز مي باشدmetic improvement, and potentially deliver a drug locally to the area that's being treated," said Daniel Anderson, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).The material, a silicone-based polymer that may be applied on the skin as a thin, imperceptible coating, mimics the mechanical and elastic properties of healthy, youthful skin. The researchers performed several studies in humans totest the material's safety and effectiveness. They created a library of more than 100 possible polymers, all of which contained a chemical structure known as siloxane - a chain of alternating atoms of silicon and oxygen. The material applied a steady compressive force thattightened the skin, an effect that lasted for about 24 hours. The best-performing material has elastic properties very similar to those of skin.

The research was published in the journal Nature Materials. In tests with human subjects, the researchers found thatthe material was able to reshape "eye bags" under the lower eyelids and also enhance skin hydration. This type of "second skin" could also be adapted to provide long-lasting ultraviolet protection, researchers said. The researchers also tested the material's ability to prevent water loss from dry skin.. This impairs skin's ability to protect against extreme temperatures, toxins, microorganisms, radiation, and injury. As skin ages, it becomes less firm and less elastic - problems that can be exacerbated by sun exposure. When the XPL-treated skin was distended with a suction cup, it returned to its original position faster than untreated skin.

In laboratory tests, the novel XPL's elasticity was much better than that of two other types of wound dressings now used on skin - silicone gel sheets and polyurethane films. The researchers then tested the materials in search of one that would best mimic the appearance, strength, and elasticity of healthy skin. In another study, the XPL was applied to forearm skin to test its elasticity. It easily returned to its original state after being stretched more than 250 per cent (natural skin can be elongated about 180 per cent). These polymers Low rate self-discharge JIS Car Battery 6-QW-120 can be assembled into a network arrangement known as a cross-linked polymer layer (XPL).

Musk said failing to deliver the project in time would غير مجاز مي باشدt his company

Tesla Inc has won an Australian contract to install the worlds biggest grid-scale battery, in what experts say will be a litmus test for the reliability of large-scale renewable energy."Lithium AmbitionsDozens of companies from 10 countries, including privately owned Lyon Group, working with U. In particular it has raced ahead of the rest of the country in turning to wind power, which supplies 40 percent of its energy.Teslas CEO Elon Musk, known for his bold approach to cars, clean energy and space exploration, trumped dozens of competing proposals to build the gigantic lithium-ion battery that will serve as emergency back-up power for South Australia - a state racked by outages."This project is a significant innovation to demonstrate the feasibility of large-scale storage. The battery is aimed at getting around the problem of inadequate storage."

We are going to make sure it does. Musk said failing to deliver the project in time would غير مجاز مي باشدt his company " million or more", without elaborating.Lithium-ion batteries have been in widespread use since about 1991, but mostly on a small scale, such as in laptops and cell phones. The move has been applauded by environmentalists but left the state prone to outages as there is no way to store enough energy when the wind doesnt blow. But under the agreement, Tesla must deliver the 100-MW battery within 100 days of the contract being signed or it will be free - a commitment Musk made in a Tweet in March."Tesla has been telling the world that it can and will finish the project within three months, said a source at a Korean competitor to Tesla, declining to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter. Now the sector is waiting to see if Musk can make good on his promise."

For lithium technology to take off on a global scale, they clearly need the storage capacity to make sure renewables can deliver 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Adrian Griffin, a geologist who specializes in lithium extraction.S.For their proponents who have long been pushing for grander use, the success of Musks big South Australian experiment will be key to greater acceptance."The battery, designed to light up 30,000 homes if there is a blackout, will be built on a wind farm operated by Frances Neoen - parts of which are still under construction. It will be the largest lithium-ion battery storage project in the world, overtaking an 80 megawatt-hour facility in California, also built using Tesla batteries.Over the last three years, South Australia has decided to shut down its coal-fired power stations and instead rely on wind, solar and gas.7 million residents were left without power, some of them for up to two weeks, when the grid overloaded and collapsed.

A typical lithium-ion battery can store 150 watt-hours of electricity in 1 kilogram of battery, representing more than double the Hot selling Motorcycle Battery YTX12-BS with good discharge performance capacity of nickel batteries. In September, South Australias 1."غير مجاز مي باشدt-effective storage of electrical energy is the only problem holding us back from getting all of our power from wind and solar," said Ian Lowe a professor of science at Australias Griffith University.."It seems that confidence helped Tesla win, but typically this kind of project takes six months so we have to wait and see whether or not Tesla can do it," the source said."There will be a lot of people that will look at this -Did they get it done within 100 days? Did it work?" Musk told reporters in South Australias capital city of Adelaide. power company AES Corp, expressed interest in the project.

With Apple set to report quarterly results on February 1 that investors

Netflixs value based on its share price is more than billion, an amount of cash Apple could afford given its overseas cash, according to Swarup Gupta of Zacks Investment Research. While there appear to be threats to Apple share price this year, there also appear to be an array of opportunities, according to Gupta. The company is staking much of its future on the redesigned iPhone X — the 10th-anniversary edition of the iconic handset -- introduced last year."Given that in December iPhone X made it into the top three best-selling devices across all key regions, particularly in urban China where it was the top-selling model, the pricing strategy seems to have been vindicated."The full results for the last quarter of the year show that Apples decision to release three new handsets over a staggered period, including the ultra high-end iPhone X, has been a sound one," said KWC global director Dominic Sunnebo.Kantar Worldpanel ComTech data released on Tuesday indicated that Apples flagship iPhone X in December was among the top three best-selling devices across Europe, Australia, Japan, "urban China," and the US."

Such a buyout would also add to Apples services muscle," Gupta said."Challenges for the iPhone X and other high-end smartphones go well beyond just the appearance (or not) of a replacement supercycle," ODonnell said in a blog post.Apple could also start making money from sales of voice-commanded HomePod speakers infused with Siri virtual assistant software.Apples image meanwhile has been bruised by revelations that the company updated its mobile software to slow the performance of old iPhones as batteries weaken from age. Apple has touted the growth of its services business, revenue from which rose 34 percent last year to almost . "The sustained lengthening of the replacement cycle appears driven simply by customer choice to hold onto their phone longer," Piecyk said in a note."Were rapidly approaching the era of smartphone market maturation, and quite possibly, the end of smartphone market growth," said chief analyst Bob ODonnell of Technalysis Research.Rumors being floated included the notion that Apple might want to buy streaming television giant Netflix to beef content in its services business.

With Apple set to report quarterly results on February 1 that investors and others are cautiously watching to see whether its newest iPhone will help fuel momentum for the worlds most valuable company.Apple is in a unique position following a major tax overhaul which has prompted the company to reveal plans to bring back most of its 9 billion in profits held overseas, providing funds to pay dividends, buy back shares, invest in research, or make acquisitions. Apple ytx16-bs battery share price has eroded in recent weeks on speculation that sales of its flagship iPhone X have been far less than expected." Some analysts say Apple needs to think beyond the smartphone if it is looking to secure its future. HomePod will make a belated debut this year, taking on Amazon Echo and Google Home devicesGupta noted that the controversy over slowing of older iPhones "has dented the reputation" of the brand. Despite Apples spectacular trajectory in the decade since the introduction of the iPhone, the California technology titan is facing challenges on whether it can continue growth."

But given the nature of Apples fan following, it could easily be forgotten in the months to come unless another major slip up happens on the companys part," he said. And, while smartphones remain popular, voice-commanded machines, wearable computing, augmented-reality glasses and other innovations could make handsets seem like old technology in the not too distant future, the analyst reasoned.5 billion, according to Zacks. Although Apple does not normally break down sales by individual models, some analysts have expressed concern that the newest and most expensive iPhone is a laggard, while others say Apple has delivered on its promise with a fuller range of handsets.Smartphone upgrade rates are at record low levels and do not appear poised to rebound in the current quarter, according to BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk.

The low-غير مجاز مي باشدt JioPhone will place pressure on Indian feature phone leaders

Buyers can get a device for a refundable fee of 1,500 rupees (.At first glance, Indian telecoms upstart Jios bet on free internet-enabled phones to win over poorer customers is a near-fatal blow for low-end handset makers, most already struggling with paper-thin margins on some of the worlds cheapest devices. The JioPhone, they say, creates a new phone segment aimed at millions of low-paid Indians, currently caught between basic, calls-and-text devices and fancier smartphones.30). Lava, which launched Indias first low-غير مجاز مي باشدt, 4G-enabled phone this year - selling for about - said it could launch more if there was demand. The deal is also a boost for two of Prime Minister Narendra Modis key campaigns: "Digital India", which aims to get more Indians online, and "Make in India", to encourage local manufacturing. But many will soon move up the chain."

The concept of 4G wholesale car batteries feature phones is not new, and most Indian firms have already done their RD," said Jaipal Singh, analyst with tech research firm IDC.HMD Global, a Finnish company that owns the rights to the Nokia phone brand, this year launched a revamped version of the Nokia 3310, which retails in India for about .A senior Reliance executive said the company plans to have 5 million phones available each week, but is concerned its supply chain may not be able to keep up with demand. But industry executives and analysts say Jios crossover feature phone - not quite a smartphone, not quite a no-frills handset - could, in fact, be a boon to the lower end of the market and suppliers that feed it, creating a new in-between category and getting more people online for the first time.

The JioPhone will give them a first taste of high-speed web browsing and is likely to gradually boost online shopping in the worlds fastest-growing internet services market, analysts said."Micromax, one of Indias largest brands, said it was working on a 4G feature phone that would rival Jios compromise offering.Currently over 60 percent of Indias roughly 750 million mobile users use phones that allow only calls and basic texts, making so-called feature phones the countrys single largest segment.Reliance Industries, led by Indias wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani, waded into Indias cut-throat telecoms industry last year with its billion bet on Jio, upending the sector with its cheap smartphones and data plans."

The low-غير مجاز مي باشدt JioPhone will place pressure on Indian feature phone leaders such as Samsung, Intex and Lava, and make life harder for ambitious new entrants like HMD," said Neil Mawston, an executive director at tech research firm Strategy Analytics.Samsung Electronics, the largest player in India thanks to its range of offerings, from high-end smartphones to basic handsets, expects the new offerings to expand the whole market and "boost Samsungs mobile phone sales in future".The Reliance executive said it aims to have all the assembly of its JioPhone devices done in India by the year-end, by the likes of Foxconn Technology Co and Flextronics Corp.Last week, it announced a new phone, which allows digital payments and will come effectively free..Smartphones remain popular in Indias cities, but the JioPhone will allow Jio to connect millions of new clients in smaller towns and the countryside, who prefer a simpler user interface, local language scripts and chunkier batteries, said Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research.

Reliance plans to weave NFC (near field communication) - a wireless technology that allows two devices to connect - in the JioPhone later this year, a move likely to accelerate the adoption of digital payments.Jio has acquired more than 125 million customers since its launch last year, primarily by offering free voice and unlimited data plans, but a further expansion of its customer base hinges largely on the availability of entry-level 4G-enabled devices.Ambanis bet is not just business. "Brands such as Micromax, Lava, Intex and Karbonn will launch similar devices to either compete or partner with Jio.Not Just BusinessBut the industry will still face tough times for now, as Jios deep pockets still squeeze rivals - and its suppliers.

The scream slices across the otherwise quiet afternoon in Karkukli

"Roger. He isnt so lucky on Monday. It is driving slowly along a main thoroughfare dividing the neighbourhoods east and west, likely looking for a route that could bring it closer to CTS forces. Take cover now!"The elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) fighters burst into panicked action, shouting at the few civilians on the dusty rubble-strewn road to hide. The suspected car bomb is about 150 metres (yards) from the CTSs base inside the neighbourhood, he tells Agence France-Presse.Elite army troops are finishing their typical lunch of rice and tomato sauce on Monday afternoon when the warning comes through on the Diyala Regiments walkie-talkie channel.Mosul: It only takes a split second for the expression on the Iraqi soldiers face to transform from relaxed contentment to absolute terror. He shakes his head and starts directing the drone back towards his rooftop, sprinkled with broken glass and empty cans of cheap energy drinks guzzled by young fighters.

Minutes later, a pair of grinning CTS soldiers emerge from the staircase. The young, clean-shaven soldier is responsible for flying the Mosul Regiments surveillance drone, which has been instrumental in helping them spot incoming car bombs. The gunfire and yelling has died down, and Karkuklis now-deserted streets are eerily quiet as tense CTS soldiers wait for news of the cars location."Armoured Kia Sportage coming your way."Its gone," the other says, waving his hand to indicate that the car has left their neighbourhood and that they are safe -- for now..Special operations forces have seized the western half of Karkukli from the Islamic State group, but the eastern half -- like most of Mosul -- remains under ISIS control. But the troops spent the morning blocking off about a dozen alleyways with tanks and bulldozers, and the Kia Sportage struggles to find a way through."

Grab the bazookas!" one unit leader bellows to his forces, several of whom grab anti-tank missiles and take up positions at intersections where they can spot the car.Drenched in sweat, drivers leap into Humvees and tanks to block off access to the main road."I put the drone up in the sky as soon as I heard there was a suspicious car, but I cant find it," he says, fixated on the birds-eye view of Karkukli displayed on the tablet screen in front of him.Any soldiers carrying weapons lighter than rocket-propelled grenades scramble into abandoned homes, with some kicking through windows to get inside."It reached our fortified positions and is turning back," the same voice says minutes later. One sets his anti-tank missile in a corner of the rooftop. While the imminent danger has subsided, CTS forces remain on high alert -- the search is on.

As soon as he heard of the suspicious vehicle, Lieutenant Haidar Hussein bounded up the steps to the rooftop of the abandoned three-storey home his unit is using as a base. Ill have Hussein set up one (anti-tank missile) for you at the end of the alley," Abbas responds."Car bomb!"The scream slices across the otherwise quiet afternoon in Karkukli, a heavily damaged eastern district of Iraqs second city Mosul. The clock is ticking -- the drones batteries only last 20 minutes and he has no other charged units.ISIS has repeatedly turned to suicide car bombings as part of its defence against Iraqi forces since the operation to retake Mosul was launched four weeks ago.

Usually, Hussein locates the booby-trapped cars, which are then targeted by CTS tanks or air strikes from the United States-led coalition warplanes circling above."Suspicious vehicle is heading north," a voice radios to Lieutenant Abbas of the Diyala Regiment, standing on a rooftop overlooking his units forward positions in Karkukli."Im monitoring this area here, as its the only way the car can reach us," Mr Hussein explains, pointing to a gel battery for motorcycle deserted main road leading into Karkukli from an adjacent industrial zone
